The brief was to refurbish a large number of well-used Eames soft pad chairs, bringing them up to a high standard as economically as possible. Our solution made use of Berkshire Furniture Services' diverse set of skills and capabilities, including:
Upholstery
We are one of the few companies in the UK that can manually reupholster an Eames Aluminium Group chair from the bare frame to good-as-new
Metal polishing
We used a combination of machine- and hand-polishing to economically bring the frames up to a very high standard.
Leather reconditioning
Where chairs did not need to be fully reupholstered, we instead reconditioned the existing leather. This highly skilled work disguises and seals damage to the existing leather at a lower cost than reupholstery. In this case, the client could not tell the difference between new and reconditioned leather.
Logistics and planning
Our small but efficient office team work closely with clients to ensure smooth, timely collection and delivery of furniture.
We bought the Eames chairs back to virtually new condition for less than 1/4 the price of new replacements. We estimate that this project saved the client around 5,300kg CO2, compared to purchasing new Eames chairs.
