Pride in Sustainability

Berkshire Furniture Services is a sustainable and environmentally friendly furniture solutions provider. Sustainability is something the whole team takes a lot of pride in.

By re-upholstering and wood re-polishing we can add years to the natural lifespan of furniture and reduce the amount of plastics going to landfill.

We strive to use sustainable fabrics, materials and methods wherever possible.

Beyond "Recycle"

While many focus on recycling at the end of a product's life, we focus on extension. True sustainability starts by keeping high-quality furniture in use for as long as possible.

A significant portion of a piece of furniture’s carbon footprint is "embodied" during its initial manufacture. By choosing to restore rather than replace, you effectively lock that carbon in place and prevent the emissions associated with manufacturing new frames, harvesting timber, and global shipping.

Sustainable Fabrics

Camira Oceanic Sustainability

Camira's Oceanic fabric is a testament to their commitment to sustainability. It is made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and marine plastic litter, aiming to combat marine plastic pollution and support ocean clean-up projects. For every 2kgs of Oceanic fabric sold, 1kg of waste is removed from the ocean, highlighting the fabric's environmental impact. Camira's efforts include:

  • Recycling: Utilizing recycled woollen army jumpers and post-consumer PET bottles to create sustainable fabrics.
  • Sustainable Practices: Implementing environmental management systems and circular recycling processes.
  • Collaboration: Working with the SEAQUAL Initiative to create fabrics that are not only durable but also contribute to environmental conservation.
  • Corporate Governance: Ensuring robust corporate governance and social actions that align with their sustainability goals.

Camira's Oceanic fabric is not just a product but a symbol of their dedication to creating a sustainable future.

Camira Rivet Sustainability

Rivet is a fixating fabric which not only connects with the modern collaborative workplace but also forms a bridge between textile traditions and future innovation. Designed to blend the aesthetic qualities of luxury woollen apparel with modern performance sportswear, Rivet is a lightly textured hopsack which emulates the swathe of suiting in a well-heeled synthetic.

Made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester from used plastic bottles, Rivet celebrates Camira’s 20 years’ experience in designing and manufacturing recycled fabrics.

Camira ReSKU Sustainability

Camira's ReSKU 2.0 fabric is a testament to their commitment to sustainability. The fabric is made from 79% recycled content from Camira's own manufacturing waste, blended with 21% renewable flax.

This innovative blend not only reduces environmental impact but also offers inherent flame retardancy due to the charring properties of wool and flax. The fabric's hopsack weave construction and colour-sorted fibres contribute to its naturally homespun aesthetic, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from hospitality to commercial interiors.

Camira Fabrics integrates sustainability across its product lines through recycled materials, circular design, and partnerships that address marine plastic pollution and promote eco-friendly textiles. Learn more here.

Recycled and Ocean-Cleaning Initiatives

Camira’s SEAQUAL Collection exemplifies its commitment to environmental responsibility. Developed in partnership with the SEAQUAL Initiative, each metre of fabric contains up to 35 recycled plastic bottles, sourced from marine waste, helping to clean oceans while creating high-performance textiles for transport interiors. The collection includes Oceanic and Quest, both flat-woven fabrics featuring Camira’s Eco FR technology, a halogen-free flame-retardant backing that ensures safety without compromising sustainability. Camira also donates a portion of sales to the SEAQUAL Foundation, funding ocean clean-up projects in Tunisia and Egypt, supporting local communities and creating social impact.

Circularity and Recycled Materials

Camira has a long history of sustainable textile innovation, starting with recycled fabrics in the 1990s. The company now produces textiles combining natural wool with plant-based fibres such as hemp, flax, and nettle, which provide inherent, chemical-free flame retardancy. Camira also advances circularity by transforming post-consumer and post-industrial waste into new fabrics, including textile-to-textile recycled fabrics, reducing landfill waste and promoting a closed-loop approach.

Sustainable Hospitality and Interior Textiles

Camira’s environmental textiles extend beyond transport to hospitality, office, and healthcare interiors. The Lumis Collection, made from recycled polyester, represents Camira’s first sheers collection designed for hotels, combining aesthetic appeal with sustainability. All fabrics are engineered to meet Crib 5 flame retardancy standards and high-performance requirements for commercial spaces, ensuring durability alongside eco-conscious design.

Innovation and Design Leadership

Camira continues to push sustainable design boundaries, creating award-winning fabrics from ocean-found plastics, hemp, and nettles, and expanding colour palettes inspired by natural environments. These initiatives demonstrate Camira’s holistic approach, integrating environmental, social, and performance considerations into every stage of textile production.

In summary, Camira Fabrics’ sustainability initiatives focus on recycling marine plastics, circular textile production, plant-based fibres, and socially responsible partnerships, positioning the company as a leader in eco-conscious textile innovation for commercial interiors.

Kvadrat Rewall Sustainability

Kvadrat's sustainability strategy is centred around the concept of "Regenerate Together through Transparency." The company aims to be a market leader in circularity and sustainable supplier engagement. Their strategy is based on six focus areas, each with concrete targets to guide their sustainability journey. They have achieved significant milestones, such as being the first interior textile manufacturing company to validate net zero Scope 1-2 greenhouse gas emissions. Kvadrat also upcycles over 200 tons of textile waste annually and offers 61 recycled textiles, reducing their dependency on virgin materials. The company has replaced all fossil-fuel-based and hybrid company cars in Denmark with an all-electric fleet and is considering adopting the same standard in countries with well-established electric vehicle infrastructure. Kvadrat's commitment to sustainability is reflected in their efforts to replace all man-made plastic in their products with recycled plastic and their investment in sustainability-related projects.
