Case Study
Oxford College Oriental Table
Innovation
An Oxford University College contacted us to help with a very personal loved table which had been damaged by a water leak in the plumbing. It belonged to the President and is a unique table, impossible to replace. In addition to the water damage, the table was unstable and parts of the decorated surface were flaking off.
Initial work centred on removing the veneer flakes and stabilising the table surface. Further work was done to carefully remove the veneer surface where it had discoloured.
Once stabilised, the team trialled numerous powder paints to match the existing colours and designs. A key challenge – other than matching the colours and finishes – was to ensure the restoration work did not look new but blended in with the original work.
The project was a success and the client was very pleased with the outcome.
